Stimme Afrikas Choir, based in Giessen, Germany, brings African culture, unity, and spirituality to life through music and dance.
Founded in 1997 by Narcisse Ngale, our choir began with a vision to recreate the vibrant worship experience of Africa. Since our first performance in Giessen in 1998, we've grown to include members from diverse backgrounds who share a love of African music and community.
The idea of Stimme Afrikas took root at a wedding in Paderborn, where Narcisse Ngale saw the potential for an African choir in Germany. In 1998, with support from the Catholic University Community (KHG), the choir officially debuted in Giessen, performing in the Bonifatiuskirche. The name "Stimme Afrikas" reflects our mission to be the "Voice of Africa" in Europe.
Today, with members from various cultural backgrounds, we remain rooted in African traditions while embracing spontaneity, performing without sheet music, and blending voices with drums and piano.
We are a diverse group of around 15 individuals, including students and non-students. We are united by a shared love for music and a commitment to preserving African culture. Stimme Afrikas is more than a choir; it's a platform for intercultural and interfaith exchange.
Our members represent a variety of backgrounds, both religious and cultural. We are a community of individuals who come together to celebrate music, faith, and cultural appreciation.
Stimme Afrikas has performed at numerous events, including baptisms, weddings, and memorials, across Germany and Belgium. In 2007, we supported "Doctors without Vacations" (Ärzte Ohne Ferien) during NRW Day in Paderborn, amplifying their message through our music.
We are honored to share African music with audiences and to bring joy to special occasions.
Our dedicated leadership team guides the choir with vision and passion.
Stimme Afrikas Choir has touched communities across Germany and beyond, fostering unity and cultural appreciation through music. Our performances bring people together and provide a platform for interfaith and intercultural exchange, helping to create a more inclusive world.
